Streamline Finished Goods Shipments with ReciPal Inventory
We've been adding features to ReciPal Inventory to streamline your processes, reduce manual entry, and give you better visibility into what's happening across your business.
Earlier this year, we introduced Purchase Orders, making it easier to create incoming orders, set expected receiving dates, and process and track raw materials as they arrive.
Now we're taking the same approach to the other side of the process: finished goods shipments.
With the new Shipments feature, you can create outgoing orders in advance, see the inventory available to fulfill them, automatically assign inventory using a first-in, first-out (FIFO) approach, and mark goods as shipped when they leave your facility. A simple dashboard gives you an at-a-glance view of all your shipments and their current status.
What Shipments Enable
Shipments are the finished goods you send to your customers.
Previously, you could manage outgoing goods by manually subtracting finished goods from your inventory. That option is still available, but Shipments gives you a more organized way to manage the entire process.
You can:
- Create shipments in advance and keep track of what's in the pipeline
- Give each shipment a name or ID to easily associate it with an order
- Select the customer receiving the shipment
- See which lots have inventory available to fulfill the order
- Automatically assign your oldest available lots first
- Attach supporting documentation such as purchase orders, receipts, or bills of sale
- Mark the shipment as shipped when the order leaves your facility
- Maintain a permanent, searchable record of the transaction
This gives you a clear record from the original order through fulfillment, while keeping your inventory up to date.
How Shipments Work
From the Shipments page, you can see all of your outgoing orders and their current status. You can search for a specific shipment by name or ID, or filter shipments by receiver.
To create an outgoing order, select New Shipment.
Give the shipment a name, select the receiver, and add any notes or attachments.
When you select a finished good, ReciPal shows the available inventory by lot, including the lot code and production date. However, we also provide an automated option. You can use Autofill Lot Code to automatically assign inventory from your oldest available lots first.
If you mark the shipment as Active your finished goods inventory will show the amount that is set to ship soon. Once the shipment leaves your facility, click Ship. ReciPal will automatically subtract the shipped quantities from your finished-goods inventory, adjust lot amounts, and save a permanent record of the transaction.
Complete Lot Traceability
With the autofill functionality keeping up with lot-codes is even easier.
As always, you can search for a finished-good lot code or an individual ingredient lot code and trace production batches through your inventory records, including where finished goods were shipped.
That means your shipment records aren't just useful for keeping inventory accurate. They also give you documentation and traceability.
Making Inventory Management Simpler
Shipments are another step toward making ReciPal Inventory easier to manage while giving you better visibility into what's happening across your business.
We know how many moving pieces there are in managing inventory for a food business. Our goal is to make those processes as simple as possible, while giving businesses the lot tracking and visibility they need.
