The supplement industry is complex. We've built intelligent guardrails that catch errors before they become costly mistakes.
It depends on your product. Products sold as dietary supplements (such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, or other supplements intended to supplement the diet) require a Supplement Facts panel, while conventional foods and beverages require a Nutrition Facts panel.
The distinction is based on how the product is intended to be used, marketed, and labeled—not just the ingredients. If your product makes supplement-type claims, is taken in pill, capsule, powder, or drop form, or is labeled as a "dietary supplement," it likely needs Supplement Facts. If it's marketed as a food or beverage meant to be eaten or drunk as part of a meal or snack, it likely needs Nutrition Facts.
ReciPal supports both Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts, so you can generate the correct label based on how your product is classified and sold. We support FDA-specific Daily Value categories for adults, children (1–3), infants (0–12 months), and pregnant & lactating women, including multicolumn labels for products spanning multiple categories.
The supplement fact tool is a template that allows you to set nutrient amounts, add ingredients without RDIs, and create proprietary blends. When using it as a template the user is responsible for entering the amounts and it does not leverage an ingredient database. The proper rounding rules, %DVs, and formatting are applied to your label based on the values you enter.
If you want to have your nutrients calculated for you, you can create a recipe for a nutrition fact panel which leverages our database. Nutrition Fact Panels can be imported into the Supplement Facts tool and further customized.
