Automatically Combine Ingredients with the Same Name
ReciPal has always given users control over how an ingredient appears on the finished product label with the “Show on Label As” field. Now, we’ve made that feature more powerful.
Previously, if two different ingredients had the same “Show on Label As” name, they would still appear as separate entries on the ingredient statement. Now, ReciPal automatically combines them into a single ingredient and places it in the correct position based on total weight.
How It Works
The “Show on Label As” field lets you choose how an ingredient appears on your finished label, separate from the ingredient’s name in the ReciPal database.
For example, your recipe might contain:
- Chicken, broilers or fryers, thigh, meat only, cooked, roasted
- Chicken, broilers or fryers, breast, meat only, cooked, roasted
You may need to keep these as separate ingredients for accurate nutrition calculations, but want both to appear simply as Chicken on your ingredient statement.
If both ingredients have “Chicken” entered in the “Show on Label As” field, ReciPal will now automatically:
- Combine their weights.
- List them as a single Chicken ingredient.
- Place Chicken in the correct position based on its total weight.
Previously, these would have appeared as two separate entries.
When This Is Useful
This is particularly helpful when you use different ingredients that can be listed under the same name on your finished product.
- Different suppliers: Two versions of the same ingredient can be listed together.
- Ingredient variations: Red, green, and yellow bell peppers can all be listed as Peppers.
- Different forms: Frozen onions and raw onions can both be listed as Onions.
- Different cuts or varieties: Ingredients that need to remain separate for nutrition calculations can be combined on the label.
This lets you maintain the ingredient-level detail you need in your recipes while creating a more concise ingredient statement.
A More Flexible Ingredient Statement
ReciPal automatically organizes ingredients in descending weight order and already combines identical ingredients. We also give you the option to combine ingredients from subrecipes. With this update, ingredients that share the exact same “Show on Label As” name are now combined.
You get the best of both worlds: detailed ingredients for accurate nutrition calculations and a cleaner, more consolidated ingredient statement on your finished label.
