With nutrition analysis, using reliable ingredient data is the name of the game. ReciPal lets you choose from a wide range of USDA ingredients. We also make it easy to add your own private ingredients to our database. With our new bulk upload feature you can now save time by adding multiple ingredients at once.

How it works

The bulk upload feature is available only for ReciPal subscribers. It lets you download a csv template, map your information to the correct fields, and then upload that template back into ReciPal to instantly add all your ingredients at once.

Steps:

• Navigate to the Ingredients page and scroll down to the Bulk Upload section
  
  
• Click “Download template”
  
  
• Fill in the template with your ingredient data
  
  
  • Format your existing data to match the template structure
  • Each row represents a new ingredient
  • Make sure to enter all mandatory fields (marked with an asterisk)
• Save the template and upload it to create multiple ingredients at once

It’s that simple! And if you miss any mandatory fields or enter invalid data (e.g. you put text in a field expecting a number) you will get an error message that calls out any issues to help you correctly map the data.

When to use this feature

Bulk uploads are extremely helpful if you have existing ingredient data that’s stored in a structured way. Maybe you exported data from another system, have built your own ingredient library, or had a supplier share a document containing nutrition information for numerous products. Whenever you have a collection of ingredients with organized data you should consider using the bulk upload feature.

Before creating any ingredients it's a good idea to thoroughly check that it doesn’t already exist in our database. Keep in mind, for many simple ingredients using a generic USDA entry is the recommended approach.
