Why CPG Brands Choose ReciPal

ReciPal grew from our founder's frustration with nutrition labeling for his own jerky brand. So it's built around what CPG brands actually need.

Retail-Ready Labels in Minutes

Retailers, distributors, and online marketplaces all expect a compliant Nutrition Facts panel before they'll stock your product. ReciPal generates FDA and CFIA-compliant labels from your recipe, so you can get your products on the shelves that matter.

Know Your Cost Per Unit

Packaged food margins are thin, and wholesale pricing leaves little room for error. ReciPal calculates your cost per bag, bottle, jar, or pint as you build each recipe, including packaging and labor, so you can set retail and wholesale prices from real numbers.

Expert Support On Demand

When you have a labeling question, you get an answer from someone who has seen it before. ReciPal's US-based support team is available by phone, chat, and email, and they specialize in the questions food entrepreneurs actually ask when launching a product.

ReciPal automatically generating an ingredient statement and allergen declaration for a packaged food

Compliant Labels With Ingredient Statements

Retail products need a Nutrition Facts panel, an ingredient statement in descending weight order, and an allergen declaration. ReciPal builds all three from the same recipe, so a formula change updates your whole label at once instead of three separate documents.

Recipe Costing That Tracks Margins

Ingredient and packaging prices move constantly. ReciPal tracks ingredient, packaging, labor, and overhead costs by unit, so you know the true cost of every bag, jar, or bottle and can see how a price increase from one supplier flows through your whole product line.

Subrecipes for Bases and Blends

Most CPG brands build finished products from a handful of shared components like spice blends, sauce bases, granola clusters, syrup concentrates. Create each base once as a subrecipe and reuse it across every SKU, and any update recalculates every label that depends on it.

Scale Batches and Adjust Yields

Dehydrating, roasting, and baking all change the weight of what you started with. ReciPal's yield adjustments account for moisture loss so nutrition facts, serving sizes, and costs reflect the finished product, and batch scaling keeps your test-kitchen recipe in sync with production runs.

Frequently asked questions

Is ReciPal a good fit for a small packaged food business?

Yes - ReciPal was built for exactly this. Thousands of CPG brands use it, from first-time founders launching a single hot sauce or granola to established brands managing hundreds of SKUs. There's no per-label fee, so you can iterate on a formula as many times as you need before you commit to a packaging run.

Nutrition Facts panels, ingredient statements, allergen declarations, and recipe costing all come from the same recipe, and ReciPal runs in a browser so you, your designer, and your copacker can all work from the same source of truth.

Do I need to lab test my product, or does ReciPal replace that?

No, database analysis is an FDA and CFIA-accepted method for nutrition labeling and is the approach used by a vast majority of food businesses, including major brands. ReciPal draws on the USDA nutritional database and has been used to generate hundreds of thousands of compliant labels without lab testing.

Lab testing is optional and is sometimes used when a product contains unusual ingredients not well represented in databases, or when you want to substantiate a specific claim. For most snacks, sauces, beverages, and desserts, database analysis is an excellent choice. ReciPal's partner lab is available if you do want lab testing.

How does ReciPal determine the right serving size for my product?

The FDA publishes Reference Amounts Customarily Consumed (RACCs) for each food category -- for example, 30 grams for chips and pretzels and 2/3 cup for ice cream. Your serving size on the label is based on the RACC for your category and your package size.

ReciPal lets you set the serving size and number of servings per container, then applies the rounding and formatting rules for you. Single-serve packages, multi-serve packages that require dual-column labels, and "as packaged" vs "as prepared" formats are all supported.

Can I create labels for multiple flavors or package sizes from one recipe?

Yes. Most product lines share a base -- a pepper mash for a hot sauce line, a granola cluster across several bars, a dairy base across a dozen ice cream flavors. Build that base once as a subrecipe, then create each flavor as its own recipe that includes the base plus what makes it different. Update the base and every flavor's label recalculates.

For package sizes, copy a recipe and change the serving size or servings per container. A 2 oz snack bag, an 8 oz family bag, and a 1 oz single-serve can all share one formula and each get their own compliant label.

How does ReciPal handle cooking, reducing, or dehydrating my product?

Raw ingredient weights rarely equal the finished product weight. Jerky loses more than half its weight in the dehydrator, a sauce reduces on the stove, and chips lose water and absorb oil when fried. If you ignore that change, your per-serving nutrition facts will be off.

ReciPal includes a yield adjustment so you can enter the finished weight of your batch (or a moisture-loss percentage) and it calculates per-serving nutrition, serving counts, and unit costs from the product you actually sell, not the ingredients you started with.

Does ReciPal generate the ingredient statement and allergen declaration too?

Yes. From the same recipe, ReciPal builds an ingredient statement in descending order of predominance by weight, with sub-ingredients of compound ingredients shown in parentheses, and a "Contains" allergen declaration covering the Big 9 allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame).

Both update automatically when you change a formula, and you can edit the wording to match how your supplier declares an ingredient. The full label -- Nutrition Facts panel, ingredient statement, and allergen declaration -- downloads as a print-ready PDF or PNG for your packaging designer.
