How to Duplicate an Entire Account or Set of Recipes to a New Account

Posted on February 21, 2020 by

Every once in a while we'll get a request to move a whole account's worth of recipes to a different account. We of course have security steps to ensure this is appropriate for both accounts, but it comes up and we do our best to accommodate.

The Old, Not So Great, Approach

Previously, we could move recipes from one account to another. The customer would copy the recipes they wanted moved (we have a function on the Recipe Dashboard to copy a recipe, but you still had to copy each individual recipe, which could be tedious for dozens or hundreds of recipes), and then we would move those copied recipes to the new account.

However, this would get tricky when there were subrecipes or other private custom ingredients that have to be accessible in the new account. Those private ingredients would get moved within their recipes, but wouldn't be able to be added to new recipes or changed due to them being private to the original account.

The New, Pretty Amazing, Approach

That issue required a slightly different approach to moving recipes, which we call "duplicating". As a result of this new functionality, we can now handle this and it's beautiful and graceful and saves everyone tons of time :)

Now we can duplicate a whole account or a specific set of recipes without anyone having to manually copy them initially, and taking care of private ingredients as well.

So far this has been very useful for some customers that want to, for example:

  • Backup of their account at a specific point in time
  • For consultants duplicating recipes to their client's account (but keeping a version for themselves)
  • You may have other reasons to make use of this that we haven't thought of, but keep this option in mind!

Reach out if you need to do this and we can set it up. It sure beats doing it manually and hopefully this helps some of you create nutrition labels and manage them a bit better :)
