Happy New Year! Don't Miss Our 2025 Recap 🚀

Internal Recipe Name vs. Label Display Name

Posted on March 12, 2026 by

We just introduced a small update that can make a big difference for many food businesses.

At first glance, recipe names seem simple. You create a recipe, give it a name, and move on. But in practice, many companies actually use two different names for the same product:

  • An internal name used for organization, costing, and production
  • A customer-facing name used for packaging and marketing

Until now, those two naming conventions had to be the same. With our newest update, you can now keep them separate.

How It Works

Label Display Name

When you rename a recipe, you'll now see two fields:

  • Recipe Name – Your internal name used for organization inside Recipal
  • Label Display Name – The name that appears on exported labels

If both names are the same, no problem — just use the recipe name and leave the label display name blank.

If they’re different, ReciPal will automatically use the Label Display Name anywhere the product name appears externally.

Where the Label Display Name Appears

If you choose to include the recipe name in your label export, ReciPal will now use the Label Display Name instead of the internal recipe name.

Label Display Name on Export

It will also automatically appear in menu labeling exports, ensuring the name customers see is the one you intend.

Why This Matters

Many ReciPal users manage hundreds — or even thousands — of recipes. Internal naming conventions often include things like:

  • SKU numbers
  • Version numbers
  • Seasonal identifiers
  • Production notes

Those are helpful internally, but they don’t belong on consumer-facing labels.

This update lets you keep your internal systems organized while presenting clean, marketing-friendly names to customers.

Built for Real-World Workflows

ReciPal is more than just a nutrition label maker, it's a complete recipe management system. We've always made it easy to customize what appears on your labels. This update adds another layer of flexibility by letting you store both internal and external product names and use each where it makes the most sense.

As always, we’re looking for ways to help keep your business organized and save you time. Give it a try and let us know what you think. 🚀
