Smarter Reordering and Inventory Risk Controls

Posted on January 20, 2026 by

We’ve released a highly requested inventory upgrade: custom reorder points. You can now define exactly when an ingredient needs attention—so you’re never caught short.

For any ingredient, set a reorder trigger based on time remaining, quantity on hand, or mark it as not needing reordering at all.

Best of all, you can mix and match methods by ingredient, giving you more control where you need it most.

If you're interested in learning more about this feature and the other ways ReciPal’s inventory management can help you're business scale - feel free to schedule a demo.

How Inventory Risk Worked Before

Inventory risk isn’t new to ReciPal. Until now, risk was calculated entirely based on usage:

  • We estimate how long an ingredient will last based on recent usage (last 30 days)
  • Yellow = less than 4 weeks remaining
  • Red = less than 2 weeks remaining
  • Ingredients could be sorted by risk to prioritize reordering

This worked well—but it wasn’t flexible enough for every workflow.

What’s New

Centralized Reordering Controls

We added a Reordering tab in Raw Materials where you can:

  • Set default warning and reorder levels
  • Choose notification preferences
  • Customize reorder rules per ingredient

Choose the Right Reorder Method

Each ingredient can use one of three methods:

1. Time-Based Reordering

Our original approach—now fully customizable.

  • Based on usage over the last 30 days and current inventory
  • Set your own default warning and reorder thresholds
  • Set individual time thresholds for specific ingredients

You’re no longer locked into 2-week red / 4-week yellow rules and can now have different time warnings for different ingredients

2. Quantity-Based Reordering

For ingredients where exact levels matter.

  • Set reorder points using any available unit (lbs, grams, gallons, boxes, etc.)
  • Example: reorder when butter drops below 200 sticks

3. Do Not Reorder

Not everything needs replenishing.

  • Ideal for seasonal, one-off, or specialty ingredients
  • Keeps reorder lists focused on what truly matters

You can set a default method and fine-tune individual ingredients as needed.

Flexible Notifications

Get alerted the way you want:

  • When: daily, weekly, or monthly (plus time of day)
  • Where: email, in-app, or both
  • Trigger: at warning level, reorder point, or both

Final Thoughts

These upgrades give you full control over how inventory risk and reordering are managed—without adding complexity. Set global defaults, customize critical ingredients, and ignore the rest.

Every improvement came directly from user feedback, making ReciPal’s inventory system more flexible, precise, and production-ready than ever.
