How Meal Prep Companies Can Use ReciPal Like a Pro
ReciPal is the perfect fit for meal prep companies - whether you’re just getting started or a thriving national brand. Our features and flexibility let you organize constantly changing offerings, scale your operations with efficiency, and produce compliant nutrition labels that help reveal your value proposition. Your nutrition facts aren’t just a requirement, they’re a selling feature. In this article, we’ll do a deep dive into how meal prep companies can get the most out of ReciPal to help save time, stay organized, and grow their businesses.
Top 4 Tips for Meal Prep Companies
1. Stay Organized with Recipe Tags
ReciPal has an intuitive tagging system that helps keep everything organized and allows you to easily filter for recipes that meet your exact criteria. You can add a tag to a recipe from any page of our program by clicking the “Add tag” button. Recipes can have an unlimited number of tags and you can even add or remove tags in bulk by selecting multiple recipes at once (more on that below).

There are many ways that meal prep companies can leverage tags:
- Seasonal or Time Based Offerings
- Winter25
- Week_10_2025
- Q4 2025
- Dietary Classifications
- Vegan
- Gluten Free
- Dairy Free
- Nutritional Attributes
- High protein
- Low sodium
- Keto friendly
- Dish Components
- Main
- Side
- Dessert
Since you can filter by multiple tags, you can hone in on exactly what you need to help construct new meals based on your goals. For example, you could filter for all of our vegan sides that are keto friendly. From here, ReciPal makes it super easy to combine recipes into one meal with the use of subrecipes.
2. Build Meals by Combining Subrecipes
In ReciPal you can turn any recipe into a subrecipe. This action allows you to use that recipe as an ingredient in the future recipes. Let’s say you have a recipe for pico de gallo. Once the recipe is set up you can click on the more tab and then select “Create subrecipe” (or from the dashboard, select actions and then “Create subrecipe”).
Now, rather than recreating the pico de gallo, you can just add it to a new recipe and set the amount it calls for. The nutrition will scale automatically.
This is particularly useful for meal prep companies because it allows you to easily combine different components to create a full meal. For instance, you may have a spicy cauliflower rice side recipe that you use in a number of different meals. You can easily scale the amount you put in each meal to match the nutritional goals you want that meal to achieve. Further, you can show the ingredients of the side grouped together (if you want to provide more insight into the components). Or, you can use the Combine ingredients from subrecipes” feature“ to aggregate the ingredient list (if you want people to have a better understanding of the total values of each subingredient).
3. Use Bulk Actions to Make Changes at Scale
For meal prep companies there are often updates that need to be made in groups. Our bulk updates feature is perfect for this. For example, maybe you’re discontinuing seasonal menu items. In this case, you can select all the items that are being taken out of rotation and archive them in one action. Better yet, if you’ve tagged those recipes then you can filter for them and then archive.

If you want to start implementing more organization you can easily start tagging your recipes in bulk too. For instance, you can select all of your vegan dishes and then tag them as such in one fell swoop.
The bulk actions also help with meal prep R & D. If you have multiple variations of a recipe and are trying to optimize it, you can select those recipes and then compare their nutrition breakdowns side by side to choose the best options or make further adjustments.
Finally, if you change a supplier for an ingredient, you can easily replace that ingredient across all the recipes that use it. Just click the ingredient, view the recipes that use it, and click the “Replace” button to select the ingredient that you want to swap in for it.
4. Fine-tune with Nutritional Overrides
Since many meal prep consumers are very serious about their macros, you need to make sure your nutrition labels give the most accurate information. With our nutrition adjustment feature you can override any of the calculated nutrient amounts. This feature comes in handy for fine-tuning aspects of the cooking process like fat loss or accounting for lab analysis results. From the label page, select "Nutrition adjustments" from the side menu. From there, it will show the current value for all nutrients. You can override this value on the label by entering a new amount.
